Elaine Hughes lives on the farm near Archerwill in east central Saskatchewan where she was raised. Her family produced most of their own food, sewed their own clothing, cut their own firewood, and created their own entertainment. Next year, she plans to have the farm certified as organic. She has worked in administration in Canada and overseas as a volunteer.

She enjoys good health, is a lifetime environmentalist and enjoys birdwatching, tenting, canoeing, biking, music, photography, and reading. She is an active member of the Beyond Factory Farming Coalition, Council of Canadians, Food For All Coalition, National Farmers Union, Saskatchewan Non-Nuclear Movement, and Nature Saskatchewan.

The Green Party of Saskatchewan addresses many of her environmental and social justice concerns as well as the need for electoral reform in order to give democracy back to the people.
