Regina, Saskatchewan, for immediate release: – The Green Party of Saskatchewan (GPS) supports the aims of a report released by Poverty Free Saskatchewan called Communities Respond. The report points out “that many Saskatchewan residents are suffering greatly from the effects of poverty and this is preventing them from fully participating in our province. Statistics indicate that approximately 140,000 people live in poverty, including 35,000 children under age 18.” GPS Leader Victor Lau says the report should be taken seriously by the Wall Government, “the plan outlines a clear plan of action to end poverty in our province. It is appalling that Saskatchewan is the only province without a public plan to eliminate poverty.”
Lau points out that the GPS already has a plan ready to end poverty in Saskatchewan. The GPS is in favour of a Guaranteed Annual Income. It is a government subsidy that would be provided to Saskatchewan residents to provide them with a minimum income
